The Cabildo of Lanzarote informs this Friday about the special prediction designed by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and adapted to the schedule planned during the XXXI IRONMAN Lanzarote that takes place this Saturday, May 20. This is a useful tool for runners and organizers, but also for the extensive security and monitoring device of the event, which includes the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, along with other health, police and civil protection units on the Island, as well as volunteers.
"More than a thousand national and international athletes will perform an authentic demonstration of resistance outdoors in Lanzarote by facing 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers on the bicycle and 42.2 kilometers of running", collects the Insular Government.
According to the weather forecast to which the Cabildo has had access, "no adverse weather phenomena are expected for Saturday, with moderate wind at the start of the event (07.00h), in Puerto del Carmen", it informs.
"The wind will blow around 20km/h, from the north component", they add. "That circumstance will help the sea - coming from the northeast - to offer a height of less than one meter in the waves", they affirm. In addition, "the water temperature will be around 20 degrees Celsius when facing this swimming segment", he comments.
Then, AEMET forecasts "north wind - turning to northeast at noon - for the triathletes from 08.00 hours, when most will already be on the bicycle", he clarifies. And also, "a sustained wind of about 20-30 kilometers per hour is expected, although there will be gusts of up to 45km/h in the interior areas of Lanzarote", he adds.
Also, "the maximum air temperature during the morning and part of the afternoon will barely exceed 21ºC". "The sky will be slightly cloudy and no rain is expected", he points out. "The ultraviolet radiation index is very high (10), estimated in clear sky conditions", he confirms.
Finally, in the marathon segment of the IRONMAN Lanzarote 2023, to be held between Puerto del Carmen, Playa Honda and Arrecife. The expected temperature will be very spring-like for the runners as it is between 18ºC minimum and 22ºC maximum. The sky is expected to be slightly cloudy and the ultraviolet solar index will remain high, according to the special prediction prepared by AEMET Canarias.
"The weather will help to enjoy again the most important international sporting spectacle"
So, in general terms, the climatology that will accompany the XXXI IRONMAN Lanzarote "will help to enjoy again the most important international sporting spectacle of those hosted by the Island of Volcanoes during the year", it reveals. A scenario where world-class triathletes such as Sam Laidlow, Cameron Wurf, Kenneth Vandendriessche, Reece Charles-Barclay, Lydia Dant or Jeanne Collonge, among others, will fight to register their name in the list of this prestigious event.
From the Institution, it is recalled that the IRONKIDS 2023 is held today Friday, "an incredible experience for each member of the family where we motivate young people between 7 and 17 years through sport", underlines Dolores Corujo.
