The day presented itself with a constant wind of 13 knots of speed, established at 015º, with shifts to 030º. The boats took about 40 minutes to complete each of the three legs consisting of a windward-leeward, with a mark rounding at the windward mark. The race course, which presented with flat sea, was located near the Puerto Calero dike.
In the start of the second leg, an incident occurred between the Race Committee boat and two of the participating boats, which caused a general recall after the signaling mast broke. The rest of the day was held normally, the protests that were presented were resolved without complications.
In the first of the races, the victory went to Carlos Morales at the helm of "Ikos", after him "El Mateo" skippered by José Manuel Die crossed the finish line, obtaining second place, and "J.J. Palmensis" at the helm of Gustavo del Castillo.
As is customary in J-80 regattas, there are many candidates for the final victory, as was confirmed after the second of the races where only "J.J. Palmensis" repeated on the podium. The victory went to Gonzalo Morales with "Puerto Calero Hesperia", while Augusto Escolar from Tenerife with "Gordita" achieved second place. The places of honor were completed with the presence of "J.J. Palmensis" from the Real Club Náutico de La Palma achieving third position.
The final victory was open to several boats with options for the victory, but the second place achieved by Gonzalo Morales with "Puerto Calero Hesperia" served him to conquer the Owners Association Trophy. Gonzalo, after rounding 6th at the windward mark, opted to jibe towards the finish line on the port tack, gaining positions to second place. The victory went to the "Txo" of Casto Martínez from Gran Canaria, so once again there was no repeat winner in any of the legs, which demonstrates the competitiveness of the fleet. The third position was for "Centro Óptica Rade" with Leonardo Armas Lasso at the helm.
The general classification was headed by "Puerto Calero Hesperia" of the Club de Mar de Puerto Calero skippered by Gonzalo Morales Quintana who added 7 points, the second place was for "J.J. Palmensis" of the Real Club Náutico de La Palma skippered by Gustavo del Castillo with 10 points, while third place was taken by Casto Martínez of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria with "Txo" and a total of 12 points.
The Fleet goes on vacation
After the celebration of the sixth trophy of the season, the J-80 calendar is paralyzed during the month of August as there is no official activity scheduled. The competition returns on September 16 with the dispute of the Puerto Deportivo Marina Rubicón Trophy, which will be held in the south of the Island on the 16th and 17th.
The closing of this first official season of J-80 that has been developing with success of participation and organization, will take place on December 17 in the waters of Puerto Calero, during Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 of the last month of the year the Puerto Calero Trophy is disputed, with which the first J-80 Lanzarote Island League will end.
