Gary O’Hanlon and Alexandra Tondeur were the winners this Saturday of the Lanzarote International Marathon, a sporting event that reached its twenty-seventh edition this year and had the participation of about 2,400 runners.

The day started at 7:55 a.m. at the Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise with the departure of the wheelers, where four international participants faced a marathon distance.

Later, at 8 o'clock, the departure of the almost 700 participants of the marathon distance took place, who had to reach Puerto del Carmen and return. In Puerto del Carmen itself, the 900 runners of the 21km gathered to begin their journey at 10:30 a.m., heading to Costa Teguise. In addition, in this modality, you could enjoy the presence of great professionals such as Chema Martínez, Emma Pallant or Nollaigh O’Neill, winner of the marathon distance in the last edition.

As they passed through Arrecife, this group was joined by the participants of the 10km distance, who left at 12 noon from the Charco de San Ginés.

This distance included great athletes such as Jaume Leiva, Tamara Sanfabio or the local runner José Carlos Hernández. Also in this start you could enjoy a wonderful batucada performance, which raised the heart rate of the runners minutes before taking the start. Finally, at 12:45 p.m., in Costa Teguise, the runners of the 5km took the start.

All of them gathered in front of Sands Beach Resort, where not only was the finish line, but where the participants could enjoy a great sports atmosphere and a wonderful area designed exclusively for them: catering, recovery area, expo area and the wonderful presence of Depa and Vicky, the speakers in charge of livening up the day.

Finally, at 2:30 p.m., the awards ceremony took place, thus ending the sporting event, which took place under a sunny day with temperatures around 25 degrees and in which the protagonists were the 2,300 runners who completed the challenge. In addition to the awards to the winners, it is worth mentioning the special award that was given to Andy Lewis, a Paralympic triathlete who won a gold medal in this modality at the last Olympic Games in Rio.
