Great victory for the Lanzarote natives Yeray Lemes-Aitor Cambeiro with the Citroen C3 in the VII Villa de Teguise Rally, in a double day where they won everything and dominated the race from start to finish. They were accompanied on the podium by Toñín Suárez-Aitor Cambeiro (Porsche 911 GT3) and Sergio Fuentes-Ariday Bonilla (Citroen C3 Rally2), in this second round of the BP Championship of Las Palmas and first of the Lanzarote Island Championship 2023. Great satisfaction for the winning couple, in a perfect rally for them and for the entire team that supports them, with one of the two Rally2 units of the Sports&You Canarias team. The event organized by CD. Manguia Motor Sport has been a success and took place with good weather and a large influx of public, as was demonstrated in the two passes through the "Complejo-Lanzagrava" section of Teguise, where the Lanzarote fans turned out and supported the participants and organizers.
Lemes and Cambeiro were the main protagonists of the race from the beginning, as they started on Friday night taking the lead in the show section. It was a complete rally for them and in total harmony with the Citroen C3 Rally2 of the Sports&You Canarias team, because from Friday night they took the lead and would not abandon the first place until the end, winning all the sections and also always improving the previous times. In short, a rally ten for them.
And in the case of Yeray Lemes, the second victory in this race, since he had only won the first edition when it was a rallysprint and with his veteran Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
Faced with the overwhelming superiority of the Citroen driver, the Lanzarote natives Toñín Suárez and Jorge Cedrés failed to maintain their streak of three victories in this Teguise event. They had to settle for a very good second place with the Porsche 911 GT3, something that was not an easy task due to the strong competition on the entry list. Although they soon found themselves alone on the second step of the podium, with Yeray very far away and also at a distance from his pursuers and final third-place finishers, the Tenerife native Sergio Fuentes with his Lanzarote co-driver Ariday Bonilla, who went from less to more with the other Citroen C3 Rally2 and managed to overtake the Gran Canaria team of Julio Martínez-Pedro Viera with the Porsche 911, fourth classified who at their own pace and with a very veteran car continue to add points to defend their title of current provincial rally champions.
First of category 1 and fifth overall were the young Javi Cañada-Jonathan Hernández with their Opel Corsa Rally4, putting up a tough battle against the more experienced Aníbal Machín, who had to resign himself with another similar car to the pace of his rivals, finishing seventh overall. In the middle of the tenors of the Rally4 cars, Oliver Rodríguez-David Rivero got in with the Porsche 911, in a very complicated day for them with the mechanics and the bad luck of a puncture that forced them to complete two sections with the emergency wheel, losing a lot of seconds.
In category 3, Adrián Betancort-Rayco Santana were first with their almost classic Toyota Corolla GT, a team and car that were the winners of the 2017 edition of the Teguise Rallysprint.
A total of 27 teams achieved the final classification in this edition of the race, out of the total of 33 that took the start on Friday night.
The race had a good final culmination with the awards ceremony at the Teguise Complex to the best classified in the Teguise Rally, followed by a party with live music. Tomorrow, Sunday at 11 am and in the same place, the activity of the motor sport world will continue with the Champions Gala of the Lanzarote Island Championship 2022.
