It was a matter of time because Unión Sur Yaiza had been giving warnings of its improvement on the field for almost a month. And it was this Sunday, in Tenerife, where the southern team broke the curse that seemed eternal and won (2-3) against the Tenerife subsidiary in their visit to the Javier Pérez sports city.
Yaiza started with two new features, it was the debut this season with Carlos Ramírez at the controls and the very young Yeray Tavío, a first-year youth player, started as a starter. On the other hand, the little habit to natural grass.
The southern team started wanting to take the game on their shoulders but things didn't go well and they found themselves with a two-goal disadvantage at halftime. But in the second half the stars aligned thinking of the greens that came back until the winning goal touching the final whistle.
The debut of Carlos Ramírez as coach started very badly but ended in the best possible way, with the three points well tucked in the saddlebags on the way to Lanzarote.
In the first forty-five minutes, the Tenerife subsidiary dominated without clear options despite the brave approach of the visitors. Leandro Cabrera “Mazinho”'s team flew like planes protected by their almost insulting youth. Fuentes and a penalty converted by Cacho put two goals of distance on the scoreboard.
But in the restart Yaiza was going to appear needed, the Yaiza of the last weeks that, full of passion and need, was not going to surrender to two goals of distance.
The protagonist of the first part of the comeback was going to be the exquisite Miguel Gómez, as cheeky as brilliant to score first an Olympic goal and, much more human, the second in a crossed shot inside the area. If Gómez knew the magic he treasures inside, he would be surprised.
It was not enough. Yaiza wanted to savor the victory for the first time this season and continued to empty with a forceful defense and fast transitions. Tenerife B, with both teams somewhat deflated, approached but without excessive danger for Álex Medina's goal.
The end was approaching but Unión Sur Yaiza saw closer than ever to take the three points and accelerated almost without gasoline in the tank. The moment of claw arrived. In the last breaths of the match it was the usual suspect, Álex Yunes, who managed to score and confirm the first three points of the season for his team.
