"A race from another world" is the motto of the Haría Extreme, a trail race that runs through unique landscapes of the Island of Lanzarote. The race organization kicked off this Saturday morning for the four distances: the CICAR Ultra, the BINTER Marathon, the Medium, and the GEOPARQUE Starter. In total, 1,200 runners have gathered at the event.
The ultra, with more than 300 runners, was the first race to start, at 7:15 a.m., from the Timanfaya National Park. For the second consecutive year, the image with the camels flanking the participants has been spectacular; meanwhile, in the municipality of Haría, the streets were filled with runners ready to start in the rest of the modalities.

In second position, José Esteban Martínez entered the finish line (09:18:49), a silver medal that has earned him the WAA Spain Ultra Cup. Marco Zanchi, from the Vibram team, completes the podium of the 94-kilometer distance (09:23:39).
In the women's category, Gemma Arenas had no rival. The runner from Ciudad Real achieved the first place in the ultra, with a time of 09:57:31. Her performance in Lanzarote has earned her the WAA Spain Ultra Cup circuit. Marta Escudero, with a time of 10:26:03, accompanies her on the second step of the podium, and wins the Spanish Cup of Mountain Races Ultra (FEDME). The third step of the podium is completed by Mercedes Pila, with a time of 10:32:04, which takes her to the second position of the WAA Spain Ultra Cup.
The first runners to enter the finish line this morning were those of the Starter modality of 10 km, with Steven Paul Coello Dixon in first position and a time of 00:45:59, followed by Javier Fernández López (00:47:03) and Adrián Hernández Delgado (00:47:06). In women's, the first in this modality was Elsa Padrón Vega (00:55:25), followed by Miriam Del Carmen Rodríguez (01:01:27) and in third position, Teresa Sánchez (01:04:51).
