CD La Oliva achieved promotion to the Regional Preferente of Las Palmas on Sunday at noon, tying 1-1 against CD Teguise in the second leg of the promotion play-off. A match that had to go to extra time, concluding at the end of the 90 minutes with a goalless draw. A match not very attractive for the fans, but with a lot of emotion due to the uncertainty of the score. Javi Machín put CD La Oliva ahead in the first half of extra time and Jonathan Torres, from the penalty spot, established the equaliser.
The first half of the match was alternately dominated, with the game played by both teams on the field not being too attractive. A first half marked by the strong wind that was blowing in the Municipal de Los Molinos de Teguise, making it difficult for the two teams to develop their game.
The first warnings came from CD La Oliva, with several lateral free kicks that had no consequences for the goal defended by Manolo. Alex also tried with a long shot that went into the hands of the CD Teguise goalkeeper.
Jonathan Torres and Guize fought for all the balls in attack, although they were not able to receive balls in conditions to endanger the CD La Oliva defence. A shot by Jonathan Torres did not find the three posts of the goal defended by Kike. And in the 28th minute, Javi Pérez opened for José's entry down the left wing, with the Majorera goalkeeper being the one who advanced to send the ball to a corner kick.
CD La Oliva was forced to make a change in the middle of the first half. Tete, with physical discomfort, had to leave the field and was replaced by Raimond. Until the end of the first half, CD Teguise took control of the ball, although without creating too much danger on the goal defended by Kike. The first minutes ended with a goalless draw.
The second half began with CD Teguise dominating, a team that pressed in the opening minutes of the period. A phase of the match in which CD La Oliva had many problems to get out with the ball controlled. Some minutes in which CD Teguise was able to get dangerously close to the area, although without specifying any of the chances generated.
One of the clearest chances of the second half was for CD Teguise in a set-piece action. Rafa González, a player who had been on the field for a few minutes, took a free kick from the edge of the area and Kike responded with his fists. Rafa González forced in this final stretch of the match, after a week in cotton wool due to problems in his left knee.
CD Teguise had two good chances in extra time that could have tipped the tie in favour of the Lanzarote team. Atamán shot from the left vertex of the area, with Kike responding with a good intervention to send the ball to a corner kick. And in the subsequent corner, a CD Teguise player headed the ball wide of the three posts. The match went to extra time
The chances that were conspicuous by their absence during the match came in the first part of extra time. The locals could have taken the lead in the 2nd minute of extra time. Guise entered down the left wing, left the ball for the arrival of Jonathan Torres and his shot went just past the post of the goal defended by Kike. CD La Oliva responded with a move by Javi Machín down the right wing, which did not find the three posts.
CD La Oliva took the lead in the 7th minute of the first half of extra time. After a throw-in, Javi Machín controlled the ball inside the area and sent the ball into the back of the net.
The controversy was not exempt in this first part of extra time. After a corner kick, the ball escaped from the hands of goalkeeper Kike, with the defence clearing the danger. In the continuation of the play, the goalkeeper kicked Atamán when he was on the ground, an action that was not seen by the referee. The protests cost the CD Teguise team delegate his expulsion, and both Kike and Atamán saw the yellow card after the referee consulted with his assistant.
The second part of extra time began with a chance that gave CD Teguise hope. A fall inside the area by Jonathan Torres was signalled as a penalty by the referee to the protests of the CD La Oliva players. A penalty that was executed by Jonathan Torres himself and who was in charge of establishing the tie at one goal.
Until the end of the match it was a wanting and not being able by CD Teguise. La Oliva intelligently tried to keep the ball as far away from their goal as possible. One of the few arrivals of CD Teguise was a shot by Guise from the edge of the area that went into the hands of goalkeeper Kike.
And with the final whistle of the referee, the joy jumped in the ranks of CD La Oliva and the sadness within CD Teguise. The Majorera team becomes a new team in the Regional Preferente of Las Palmas.
