CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved victory this Wednesday at the Tías Municipal Sports Center against the leader, Balonmano San José Obrero (29-27) in a match corresponding to the sixteenth round of Group A of the Women's Silver Division, brought forward due to the Tiñoseras' Saturday commitment to the Queen's Cup.
The match remained tied for the first twenty minutes of the first half, with both teams trying to start strong, with the locals seeking the tension they missed in Siero and the visitors marking territory with the same defense that led them to victory in the first leg match.
But CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, far from shrinking and without the Andalusian referees calling a single exclusion in the entire first half, managed to adapt better to the development of the match and took advantage of both counterattacks and static plays much better than David Betancort's pupils, who reached halftime five goals down (15-10).
The second half was somewhat rougher, and the capital team continually rowed until they came close to a miracle with two minutes remaining. The refreshing changes from San José helped the comeback, which did not culminate because the Tiñoseras mustered the grit to take the victory at the end of the sixty minutes with the Tías Municipal Sports Center full with both sets of fans.
With much better sensations than those achieved a few days ago in Asturias, the Tiñoseras narrow the gap with the leader San José, who loses in Tías for the second time this season. San José remains leader with twenty-eight points, Puerto del Carmen consolidates its second place with twenty-seven, while Rodríguez Cleba remains third with twenty-five and one game less, which will take them to visit Comercial Ulsa Hand Vall, fifth classified, next weekend.
The top scorers for Balonmano Puerto del Carmen were Mary Sánchez with ten goals and Keyla Hernández with seven goals. In the Arrecife ranks, María Adina stood out with eleven goals.
CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will play the first leg of the XLI Queen's Cup tie against Club Balonmano Elche on Saturday. It will be on Saturday at the Tías Municipal Sports Center at 8:00 PM. The Elche team is third in the Guerreras Iberdrola League with only two games lost this season. They are coming off a home win against Rocasa Gran Canaria (33-29).
