UD Lanzarote opened the season with a poor draw against Unión Puerto at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote. The Rojillos were not able to overcome a Majorera team that defended with order and even dared to endanger the goal defended by Agoney. Borja Vera put UD Lanzarote ahead in the first half and Ángel, from the penalty spot, established the draw in the second half.
UD Lanzarote imposed its home condition in the first minutes of the match, having the domain of the ball and trying to overcome the strong pressure exerted by Unión Puerto on the field. Some first minutes in which most of the game takes place in the center of the field, with UD Lanzarote dominating the situation.
The first chance of the match came in the 7th minute. Rosmen controlled a ball inside the area, gave way for the arrival of Borja and his shot was saved by goalkeeper Julio with a good stretch. The rebound was picked up by Dani López, sending the ball into the back of the net, an action that was disallowed for offside.
It was not the only controversial play of the match. The locals claimed a penalty on Dani López, the Palmera player falling when he entered the area on the left side. Minutes later, Rosmen headed a corner kick into Julio's hands. UD Lanzarote approached the vicinity of the area very easily and ran into a Majorera team that accumulated many players in the defense area.
UD Lanzarote took the lead in the 28th minute. Goalkeeper Julio cleared a ball with his fists, the ball was dead at the feet of Borja Vera and he volleyed the ball into the back of the net. The former Unión Puerto player was in charge of opening the scoring at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote.
The locals lowered the intensity in the final minutes of the first half, a circumstance that was used by Unión Puerto to have a little more depth. One of the few chances for the Majoreros in the first half came in the 37th minute. A quick play that was culminated by Aday with a shot from the front of the area, the shot going into the hands of goalkeeper Agoney.
The second half of the match opened up and both teams had chances to take the victory. Unión Puerto achieved the equalizer in the 6th minute of the restart. Machín entered the right wing, and when he entered the area he fell before the presence of Ángel Gil. The referee pointed out the penalty, with Ángel being in charge of materializing the equalizer.
UD Lanzarote created a lot of danger in this second half in the set pieces. In the 60th minute, Rosmen headed a free kick executed by Borja Vera from the left side, crashing the ball into the base of the post. Minutes later, Javi Betancort finished off a corner kick, being on this occasion a defender who took it under the posts.
Unión Puerto also had options in this second half. Ángel tried it with a shot from the front of the area and the ball went next to the post of the goal defended by Agoney. In the 80th minute, Aday executed a free kick from the left vertex of the area and forced the stretch of the goalkeeper. And the clearest was Christian in the 87th minute, entering the right wing and his shot was taken by Agoney.
The second half was a wanting and not being able for UD Lanzarote. It was the team that had the ball in its possession, approaching with great danger to the vicinity of the area and not knowing how to specify the actions of attack. The Rojillos hung balls inside the area, defending Unión Puerto with many players in defensive tasks.
Draw between one of the candidates to play the play off and one of the teams that has had more problems during the preseason. A draw that tastes little to UD Lanzarote, a team that accumulates 42 games without losing in the Ciudad Deportiva, and that is almost a triumph for Unión Puerto after all the problems it has had throughout the summer.
