A total of 1,927 sports, gastronomy and nature lovers from thirty nationalities have registered to participate in the 'Lanzarote Wine Run', which will be held this Sunday, June 18, as reported by the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

Of the total number of registered participants, 345 will participate in the long race (23.4 kilometers), which will start at 9:00 a.m. at the La Florida winery. The short race covered its quota of 500 entries, while the walk has registered 1,082 participants. These two modalities, of 12 kilometers, will begin at 9:30 and 9:45 hours, respectively, at the junction of the La Geria road with the Tinguatón road.

The collection of bib numbers will be between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. this Saturday, June 17, in the Plaza de Uga, from where on Sunday the participants must take the buses that will take them to their respective departures. They will have to take them between 7:15 and 7:50 hours for the long race and between 7:30 and 8:30 hours for the rest. The finish line will also be located in Uga, with the arrival of the first runners expected at 10:00 a.m.

As a novelty, runners will not have plastic cups

An important novelty in this edition will be the elimination of plastic cups in the provisions of the route. In this sense, together with the bibs, the runners will receive a bottle for water and the walkers a polycarbonate cup.

Another novelty will be the possibility of donating their shoes to the children and young people of Equatorial Guinea through the 'Solidarity Shoes' campaign of the Cabildo's 'Lanzarote Recicla' program.

The race, as every year, will allocate a part of the money raised from registrations to the solidarity project 'Save La Geria', which "seeks to recover and conserve this protected space in addition to the socio-labor insertion of people with intellectual disabilities thanks to the work of Adislan and its employment center Grevislan", as pointed out by the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

They will receive their weight in wine as a prize

As has happened since the first edition, the winners of the 'Lanzarote Wine Run' will receive as a prize the equivalent of their body weight in liters of wine. Among the participants, a trip for two people will be raffled to participate in the Rioja Alavesa Wine Run, which will be held on October 29. They will also be able to participate in the usual photography contest with prizes of three stays for two people in Lanzarote and two plane tickets from Binter Canarias to any island of the Archipelago.

The 'Lanzarote Wine Run & Traditional Cuisine Festival 2017' will start in Uga on Saturday, June 17 at 5:00 p.m., with the celebration of the Wine Run Kids, a race reserved for minors. The Traditional Cuisine Festival will remain open between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. People who come to the Plaza de Uga to taste the enogastronomic delights that will be served there will also be able to enjoy the concerts of 'Boulevard', at 7:00 p.m., and 'Mama Said', at 9:00 p.m. On Sunday, 'Ni 1 Pelo de Tonto' will perform at 2:00 p.m.

The organization is in charge of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin 'Vinos de Lanzarote', the Yaiza City Council, Club La Santa and Saborea Lanzarote. These have the collaboration of Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Geopark Lanzarote and Archipiélago Chinijo, Adislan, Lanzarote Recicla and different private companies.
