The practice of Kenpo continues to grow in the municipality of Yaiza with the celebration of the Playa Blanca Tournament that was held last weekend in the south of Lanzarote. The event brought together more than a hundred children and young kenpo practitioners from four to 14 years old.
The Kenpo Karate Lanzarote academy, based in Playa Blanca, and the Yaiza City Council promote martial arts in training and competition by organizing a variety of activities throughout the sports year.
The Playa Blanca Tournament, coordinated by the regional coach and head of the academy, Wellington Castro, held point fighting and synchronized team forms competitions, as well as a self-defense exhibition by members of the Canary Islands Kenpo Union, Josafat Tejera, Sixto Martín and Colin Baldoni.
Ángel Lago, Councilor for Sports of Yaiza, highlights “the growth of Kenpo in daily training and the desire of young athletes to compete. This year the Playa Blanca Tournament surpassed by more than twenty the kenpo practitioners with respect to the first tournament held in 2022”. Kenpo is part of the offer of the Municipal Sports Schools and its practice contributes to the sports growth of boys and girls and their personal development, strengthening bonds of friendship and solidarity.
The Kenpo Karate Lanzarote school offers classes for boys and girls, young people and adults in the different modalities of sports combat, adapted to each age: Semi kenpo (point fighting), Continuous Kenpo (light contact), Kenpo Submission and Full Kenpo, which combines all modalities into one. Families interested in obtaining more information can go to the academy headquarters located in front of the Natura Palace hotel in Playa Blanca, in the morning and afternoon.
