In the second match of this San Ginés Football Tournament 2017, UD Las Palmas B debuted against CD Mensajero, who needed the victory to make up for the defeat in the first match against UD Lanzarote. The match couldn't have more incentives, with a Second Division B team against a team that was in that category until last season and aspires to recover it.
The match began with the ball in possession for UD Las Palmas, which did not allow its rival to have opportunities to create play. The Gran Canaria team imposed speed and good play against a palmero team that defended Garate's goal very well. After 16 minutes, the dominance of the yellow subsidiary paid off when Benito managed to take advantage of a ball on the edge of the area and, with a powerful kick, managed to beat the goalkeeper to put the 1-0 on the scoreboard.
The Gran Canaria team did not stop in its impetus and continued to dominate the match, with few arrivals from Mingo Oramas' team to Guanche's goal, although without endangering the partial victory of their rival.
After 35 minutes, an entry down the left wing by Benito ended with a ball into the area that no rojillo player managed to clear, the ball falling to Álex González who, after shaking off two opponents, shot sending the ball out, when he only had the goalkeeper as an opponent to his shot.
At the edge of halftime, again an entry down the left wing by Benito could have ended inside Garate's goal, but Álex González's close-range shot was well held by the palmero goalkeeper to reject it up to two times, wasting UD Las Palmas B the possibility of extending their differences, ending the first 45 minutes with the score of 1 to 0.
In the second half, UD Las Palmas started again having the ball and even had a new opportunity with a ball that, again, Benito, left to Erik, but however the rival goalkeeper was very attentive to clear a tremendous shot from the newly incorporated forward.
Little by little the domain of the ball was becoming more equal, as well as the little clarity in the arrivals to goals. Mensajero had a free kick on the edge of the Gran Canaria area, but the ball crashed into the barrier, until then, little more to endanger Guanche.
But the changes in UD Las Palmas and the experience of the CD Mensajero players were gradually shifting the balance towards the palmero team, which took very good advantage of its opportunity to tie in the 72nd minute through Vianney. Full effectiveness for the rojillos who took a great prize for their excellent defensive work throughout the match.
UD Las Palmas would have a clear chance entering the last 10 minutes of the match, but Erik failed to finish with conviction between the three posts, with goalkeeper Garate almost beaten, sending his ball hit over the goal of the latter.
With this victory, UD Las Palmas B will play the tournament with UD Lanzarote, this coming Saturday from 8:00 p.m., but before, at 5:00 p.m. there will be a tribute to Agustín Hernández "El Aldea", who was for many seasons the equipment manager of UD Lanzarote, facing a selection of veterans from the island and former players of UD Lanzarote
