There is no evil that lasts a hundred years... and such

Paulino's populist discourse, which takes advantage of a large mobilized mass, does not take hold due to the Spanish constitutional and legislative limitations. This is how the peripheral territories are tied down, arguing the cost reduction that centralist exercise implies, where the fiercest Capitalism and any aspect, classic or modern, of imperialist colonialism is hidden.

At this moment, when representative democracies see the end of the tunnel and the participation of citizens is increasingly active and widespread, being under a Spanish or European administration is more counterproductive than ever. The very breadth of citizen participation in Europe or Spain is associated with the new influence in politics of a segment of the population with a considerable average age, who left their youth a long time ago, directing these administrations and their policies towards conservative versions.

In the Canary Islands, on the other hand, the average age will be considerably younger than in those places. Therefore, we will notice a political deficit in its most progressive and social version. New technologies, facilitating communication between people with common interests, will widen this gap between colonialist countries and colonized territories, between generational interests, between exploiters and exploited.

The case of the oil extractions carried out by Repsol in the Canary Islands evidences all these issues. We see how Rivero's populist discourse, not even dressed in the popular support to which he clings and which has sprung up in the streets with much more naturalness than his discourse, manufactured to the measure that the social movement and Spain mark him at each moment, achieves what is desired by the limitations imposed from the Spanish administration, above which Repsol is positioned.

The mass media have enshrined in Spain a young discourse, as punishment or threat, to a state line that was clearly becoming increasingly conservative. But at the same time they are capable of, once the State submits again - before or after the elections - turning into a repulsive devil anyone who yesterday raised to lead the revolution. In fact, it is very possible that this will happen before the general elections.

The reality is that today financial power is above the States. The governments of the states, in addition, are mired in a pincer between this supranational power and internal currents of opinion, where the number of units of influence is rapidly increasing thanks to new technologies. This fact causes state political powers and popular interests to contradict each other. The cruelty that politicians in power seem to exert, with the implementation of new legislations that favor Capital and exploit the population, is only the level of agreement accepted by the states in the face of pressure from transnational capital.

In reality, there is a significant loss of sovereignty in the elected and representative political class, leaving an open front between Capitalism and popular power. For this reason, it is easy to foresee a change worldwide regarding the former predominance of representative democracy, which will be overwhelmed by the demand for citizen participation. The future, at the hands of new technologies, is not that it looks hopeful, it is that the figure of the mediator will disappear and the confrontation will be open and broadcast online.

This will only end when we achieve a fair distribution of wealth, end evils such as poverty and hunger, and nations regain their sovereignty. But exercising the greatest possible food, energy, and popular sovereignty. So that the dependencies that kidnap souls and steal lives end. Then, our main goal will be the search for equality.

Much will depend on how long it takes each society to reach each point. Self-management, self-determination, administrative and economic independence are mandatory steps to improve, to move towards the society of the 21st century.
