When in Madrid they realize that our skies are not only the faithful reflection of the good weather that they often come looking for when they choose our islands as a vacation destination, then we will begin to understand each other.
We must ensure that once and for all it is recognized that for the people of the Canary Islands, the sky is our road, our link and our communication route with the rest of the islands and with the rest of the world, and therefore, the plane is our basic, vital means of transport.
If we start from the fact that the recent Judgment of the Supreme Court, of February 10, 2016, recognizes that the privatization process of AENA, undertaken by the State Government, has meant the effective indirect management of said entity, as well as the full validity and operability of the provision contained in article 33.13 of the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands, we must insist on initiating the political and legal procedures to claim from the Government of Spain the management of our airports.
The effective incorporation of the Canary Islands into the system that is decided for the participation of the Autonomous Communities in the management of the airports of the Spanish State is essential and urgent.
And it is that, without going any further, the Lanzarote airport is among the ten most profitable in the entire Spanish territory, without this implying any benefit for the people of Lanzarote.
In Coalición Canaria we have not stopped working for the Canary Islands, while others were dedicated to looking for a dance partner. We have managed to have proposals as beneficial for our islands as the one presented by our colleague Ana Oramas on February 22 heard for the modification of the public service obligation agreement to establish the application of a flat rate for flights between islands. Proposal still pending the approval of the European Commission, and which would come into force in 2017 after the approval of the General State Budgets.
There is still a long way to go and for this it is necessary for Coalición Canaria-Partido Nacionalista Canario to regain the strength it once had in Congress and in the Senate. May the large parties need us again to carry out proposals and projects directly related to the true needs of those of us who reside in the Canary Islands.
When Coalición Canaria became strong in Madrid with four deputies and seven senators, we managed to have the residence certificate taken into account when flying. Then they listened to us and now they will have to listen to us.
We face these new elections again being the only nationalist force that is presented in the Canary Islands and we do so proudly and with our heads held high, because we can give an account to the 2 million Canarians by telling them that what we promised in the December campaign we have carried out.
