The citizens, collectives and political organizations with transformative will of the island of Lanzarote are facing a historic opportunity to remove the foundations of an old policy, in which particular interests have prevailed over general ones and whose most evident symptoms have been corruption, inequality, political patronage, poverty, evictions, the transfer of public to private (privatizations), an undesirable health degradation, environmental deterioration, unemployment, precariousness, opacity and perversion of the governing principles of the institutions, the distancing and exclusion of citizens from the decision-making of the issues that concern and affect them.
With the "confluence" what we intend is to build a social, political and electoral majority, which opens the way for profound political change in Lanzarote, which embodies the desires for change of the citizens and that we must build together. Looking for a political instrument that creates a broad, open, plural, transversal space, of citizen base in which all the organizations and associations that from different sectors converge in the idea of transforming Lanzarote participate. They will do so through an egalitarian and horizontal representation, which is impregnated with democratic principles of operation, with respect to dissent but seeking consensus.
With the candidacy of "Popular Unity" or "Citizen Unity" we intend to rescue the public institutions of the island from the colonization of economic powers, stagnation, corruption, nepotism, mismanagement, and will do so through measures that bet on culture, for the defense of the public, for a change of energy model, for an exciting, sustainable and socially balanced island model.
Based on the fact that politics is the service to the citizens and the interests of the common, we must make this an instrument to improve the reality of Lanzarote, and not serve the particular interests of a minority and against the general interest of the citizens of the Island.
There is no turning back: either an old, unusable and corrupt machinery that represents the four-party system (Psoe – Pil – CC – PP), or a conscious and organized citizenry, which is ready to close a cycle of bad government.
It would be a strategic error, and an irresponsibility with respect to the historical moment we are living, that the organizations that bet on a change of political time were presented, with similar social transformation programs, competing among themselves in the municipal, insular and archipelagic electoral processes of 2015. The only winner of that dispute for the same potential voters would be the current party system. The big loser would be the citizenry that longs for changes. It is necessary to have a high level of vision to respond to a citizenry that wants to move from disenchantment to illusion.
