The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has put out to tender the comprehensive renovation of the road connecting Arrecife and Costa Teguise, the Avenida de Las Palmeras which serves as the entrance to both population centers.

In this case, the project, which has an execution period of 7 months once initiated, has a starting budget for tender that amounts to 4,958,633.34 euros including taxes, and interested companies have until next November 24 at 09:00 AM to submit their proposals.

The main objective of the project is to resolve the significant deficiencies in the road, such as cracks in the surface, bulges caused by palm tree roots, or unevenness between the two carriageways. Likewise, work will also be done to eliminate the lack of marking in large sections of the road and the consequent loss of visibility of the existing horizontal and vertical signage.

It should also be noted that the planned works include, among other actions, demolitions and excavations, retaining walls, surfaces, road containment elements, horizontal and vertical signage, marking, sidewalks, and irrigation and gardening networks.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, assured that this work is "a historic demand from residents and drivers who travel daily between Arrecife and Costa Teguise, guaranteeing a modern, safe, and accessible road." "When we came into government and assessed the urgent road needs of the island, we identified that this road was one that not only needed urgent action but a project that would guarantee its maintenance for the coming years," he added.

For her part, the vice president and head of Finance and Contracting stated that this intervention demonstrates that the Governing Group knows "the priorities of the island's citizens." "We have worked tirelessly, in coordination with the departments, to mobilize large-scale public investments like this one that improve the island's key infrastructure," she asserted.

"We are aware of the high number of vehicles that travel on this road daily, and given its state of conservation, we will completely resurface the section, resolving the unevenness and improving road safety for all users," stated the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina.
