We often hear Coalición Canaria talk about the Avenida Marítima needing to be opened, but we don't see any action from this political party that would make citizens believe they are acting effectively.
Coalición Canaria in the Arrecife government group is as useful as a bird in a fishbowl or a fish in a cage, which is to say, not at all. It is well known that this party's room for maneuver in the capital is limited by the President of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, who is responsible for CC continuing to prop up Eva de Anta in the Mayor's office.
It should be remembered that the Partido Popular has been demanding since the last legislature that this collector road cannot be closed to traffic because, together with the main road, they create a municipal ring, and therefore, closing it generates a traffic chaos; the traffic chaos that our city is experiencing at the moment.
CC has lost credibility because when a party is part of a government group but is not capable of imposing the majority, it becomes an accomplice, or rather, a "puppet" of the decisions of a Mayoress who has come to end the legislature with a submissive government partner.
The media tantrums of CC are of no use to the residents of Arrecife if, when it comes to the truth, when it comes to making decisions such as opening the Avenida Marítima, they bow their heads and continue to accept the impositions of a Mayoress with anti-democratic and dictatorial overtones.
The inconsistencies of CC regarding the Avenida Marítima have been of all kinds: first they supported the closure and its semi-pedestrianization, later, seeing that the citizens were totally against it, they opposed it and, to make matters worse, they requested a popular consultation that never arrives and that, if it does arrive, I fear that it will not change the opinion of a Mayoress who is not capable of complying with two plenary agreements that by majority have decided that the Avenida Marítima has to be opened to traffic.
While CC continues to hide behind a consultation, businesses continue to close in Arrecife and they continue to place Arrecife as the city of chaos, the inaccessible city, they continue to allow thousands of people to choose to do their shopping in large areas of other municipalities.
As CC would say to the PSOE in Arrecife "neither with you nor without you do my ills have a remedy, with you because you kill me and without you because I die".
By Jacobo Medina, deputy spokesperson for the PP in the Arrecife City Council
