When Rajoy's Government returned home the ladies who were on hunger strike at the doors of his conscience, demanding a State Pact against Gender Violence, many of us believed them. The feminist pressure taken to the limit of the risk of death and the figures of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners seemed to have finally penetrated the sensitivity of our leaders of the Popular Party.
Unfortunately, barely five months later we have verified that not a single euro has been contemplated in the allocation of funds made in the General State Budgets for specific complementary measures to fight against the prevention and attention to aggressions against women and minors in the private sphere, within the framework of this State Pact. Neither are the items prior to the crisis recomposed nor is Equality financed.
They lied to us again. As with the fight against corruption, as with the endowment of dependency, as with the education law... They lie and do not blush, they lie without changing their expression, they demonstrate behind the purple banners when it is time, but they do nothing.
I chat with women in my environment, equally outraged, sunk in impotence, who clench their fists and continue working to help other women, the victims, who know a lot about pain and fear and almost nothing about politics.
But they may understand that such a decision, to forget again the women attacked and murdered by gender violence, should invalidate the entire Budget in a society that aspires to be equitable and fair.
Will political forces that supposedly aspire to that end, such as Ciudadanos or Coalición Canaria, allow the draft General Budgets to materialize under these conditions? Will they join the last slap inflicted on women and Equality? I want, I hope, I wish, that they do not, that they impose their good judgment and transforming will and remind the Popular Party that the conservative steamroller is history.
