A group of 23 young people from Lemoa (Vizcaya) visited the headquarters of the Biosphere Reserve office in the Casa de los Arroyo in Arrecife on Thursday morning to expand their knowledge of the island's culture of sustainability and environmental commitment actions.
The expedition was received and guided by the department's technician, Quino Miguélez, who offered detailed information about the historical challenges and the creativity of the responses of the island community to critical situations such as the lack of water, volcanic eruptions or the insular fact itself. They also learned about the evolution of the century-old heritage building and its scientific library.
The Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, has shown his open willingness to collaborate with this type of initiatives "that allow us to share our experience of resilience and respect for the territory and reinforce the values of sustainable progress in the new generations".
The activity, a personal and social development experience within the framework of the Elkartruke project, promoted by the Lemoa City Council, has been possible thanks to the support of the Canarian Foundation Adacis, dedicated to the fight against the causes and effects of climate change, the defense of human rights and the conservation of biodiversity, and the office of the Biosphere Reserve.
