The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Lanzarote approves the signing of the collaboration agreement with the Yaiza City Council for the organization of the Wine Run 2026, one of the sporting and promotional events of local product with the greatest participation on the island, which will be held on June 13 and 14 in the surroundings of La Geria.
The agreement establishes the framework of cooperation between both administrations for the development of the event, which combines sports competition, promotion of local product and enhancement of the wine-growing landscape. The event will once again take place on roads and trails in the municipality of Yaiza, with the finish at the Uga fairgrounds, where the parallel program will be concentrated.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that “this agreement allows to continue with the organization of an event that has a direct impact on the local economy, especially in the municipality of Yaiza and in the primary sector linked to wine. The Wine Run is an example of how activity can be generated from the territory, respecting the environment and adding value to the island's products”.
For his part, the counselor of Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, explains that “the development of the event in La Geria requires precise planning, both in terms of safety and space protection. The agreement defines that operation and guarantees that the event adapts to the conditions of a unique agricultural environment, where economic activity, landscape, and conservation coexist”.
The Wine Run 2026 contemplates three main modalities: long-distance race (approximately 22.5 kilometers), short race (12 kilometers) and hiking, in addition to a specific event for minors on Saturday, June 13, in the nucleus of Uga. The total expected participation reaches 2,200 people, distributed among the different categories.
