The Yaiza City Council has just put out to public tender, with a base bidding budget of 142,000 euros, the construction of a bike lane, expansion of sidewalks and lighting in the section between the 'rotonda de la molina' of Playa Blanca and the vicinity of the southern port, a construction project that involves the extension of the section of the bike lane already built that goes from the industrial area to said roundabout.

The municipal initiative also foresees the landscaping, beautification and lighting of this first phase of the project, which the previous contractor "left half-finished", forcing the City Council to terminate the contract with a favorable opinion from the Canary Islands Advisory Council.

The deadline for submitting offers expires on November 27, so the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, is optimistic and trusts in "awarding the works in accordance with the corresponding deadlines and technical and administrative conditions so that the winning company executes the works within the four-month period determined by the specifications".

Have "in the medium term" a network of bike lanes

"The project drafted by the Municipal Technical Office contemplates that the section of bike lane already built, on one side of the LZ 701 road, continues behind the gas station, reaches the Guaguas Station and from there extends parallel to the sidewalk along Avenida de Canarias to the pedestrian crossing located just before the roundabout at the entrance to the port, also providing for its connection with the bike circuit of the future Atlantic Park", explained the Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza, Jonatan Lemes.

According to the City Council, "the intervention will improve the image of the tourist town and contribute to improving the safety of pedestrians, promoting the use of bicycles and other personal mobility vehicles VMP (scooters, unicycles and others) as a non-polluting means of transport on roads specifically designed for this purpose".

"With this action and other similar ones already planned by the City Council, the nucleus of Playa Blanca will be able to have in the medium term a network of lanes for the VMP, making our main tourist nucleus a leading destination in urban mobility solutions in Lanzarote", is added from the Consistory
