Seventy children from CEIP Yaiza, aged between 3 and 5 years old, were delighted to receive their 'Children's Traffic Agent' card, which certifies their participation in the road safety education campaign run by Yaiza Town Hall in the municipality's schools. The 'agents' credentials were presented by the Mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, together with officers from the Local Police and teachers from the school.
The Town Hall has detailed that the children were not only "proud" of their cards while "wearing t-shirts printed with the image of the camel 'Rofete', the mascot of the training", but they also demonstrated that they had been able to take advantage of the days, according to the answers they gave to the police's questions.
The young road safety experts recalled that they should walk on the sidewalk away from the road and without running, that they should look left, right and left again before crossing a road, and that they should do so with caution at pedestrian crossings.
Following this meeting with the schoolchildren, the Town Hall has requested "citizen collaboration so that road safety education, as stated in the campaign slogan, is a fundamental task that concerns us all". "These are basic teachings, but even adults sometimes do not apply them in practice," they warned.
For the moment, the Local Police have already given courses on the subject in the schools of Las Breñas, Femés and Yaiza, with Uga being their next destination.
