The president of VOX, Santiago Abascal, will visit Lanzarote this Sunday, where he will address the media at 12:00 noon in the port of Arrecife, in the Muelle de La Marina area. After this meeting, Abascal will travel to Gran Canaria to participate in another event as part of his tour of the Canary Islands.
It is not the first time that Abascal has visited the island; he was previously in Lanzarote to talk about immigration, one of the cornerstones of the far-right party's arguments.
Among the proposals it defends, according to its party, are the repatriation of all immigrants in an irregular situation, the deportation of foreigners with legal residence who commit crimes or try to impose their religion, and the "re-migration" of those who receive social assistance that, according to VOX, should be allocated to national citizens.
The visit takes place while the Open Arms ship is docked in the port of Arrecife, which Abascal has referred to on occasion as a “slave ship” and has even called for it to be sunk. These statements were branded as fascist by the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo
