Vizcaíno denounces the "farce" of the Tías government in the presentation of the Modernization Plan

Vizcaíno denounces the "farce" of the Tías government in the presentation of the Modernization Plan. The nationalist spokesperson criticizes the lack of deadlines and the prioritization of tourism over residential areas, warning about the recovery of 6,000 tourist beds and the contradiction of the PSOE with its discourse of tourist containment.

The spokesperson for the Nationalist Group in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, has denounced the "farce" staged by the government group by calling a meeting with barely 24 hours' notice for the presentation of the Modernization Plan of the Municipality of Tías (PMM) to the political groups.

"This haste has been such that the Popular Party could not even attend, and the government partner had to leave the meeting due to prior commitments, without even hearing what we had to contribute," Vizcaíno explained.

The nationalist spokesperson has criticized that the meeting has not served to advance in the development of the plan, since "we still have no planned deadlines and with the same information that they offered us more than two years ago." In this sense, he has questioned the mayor's insistence that this plan is more important than the General Plan, when "what the municipality really needs is a General Plan that responds to the needs of the residents."

Vizcaíno has stressed that the PMM prioritizes tourist uses over residential, citing as an example the case of La Tiñosa, where the residential use will be changed to one compatible with tourism. "This will allow the few plots that remain in La Tiñosa to be used for tourism, contradicting the mayor's discourse of favoring the construction of residential areas," he warned.

Another of the most worrying aspects that the nationalist spokesperson has highlighted is the intention to recover more than 6,000 tourist beds that are currently not in operation, to make them available to businessmen. "This will go against the PSOE's discourse on containing tourist growth and will allow the construction of new hotels in the few free plots that remain in the municipality," Vizcaíno warned.

The councilor recalls that, despite the fact that the PSOE has defended the idea of a "saturated island", from its Organization Secretariat, a position held by the mayor of the municipality, José Juan Cruz, an attempt was made to increase the number of beds in Tías.

"Are we saturated or not? The PSOE must make a serious reflection on its tourist growth policy, since what they are proposing contradicts their own statements," he emphasized.

Amado Vizcaíno has also emphasized the need to manage differently the beds that are no longer operational. "Our position is clear: those beds must expire, or businessmen can try to repurchase those complexes and renovate them, but never to build new hotel infrastructures," he indicated, pointing out cases such as the Hotel Kontiki, which went from being a timeshare to becoming a hotel with a millionaire investment from a tour operator in the 2015-2019 term.

Finally, Vizcaíno has criticized the attitude of the mayor, assuring that "he cares more about the problems of some businessmen than about the well-being of the population in general, to whom he only offers crumbs."
