Arrecife was the scene this Saturday, January 3rd, of a rally in support of the Venezuelan people after learning of the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife in the context of the United States' attack on Venezuela. The event took place at 6:30 PM in Parque Islas Canarias and brought together around thirty Venezuelans residing in Lanzarote.
The mobilization was called by the Association of United Venezuelans in Lanzarote, which wanted to show its support for what they consider a historic moment for the South American country and for the new generations of Venezuelans living abroad. Amidst flags, hugs, and messages of hope, attendees celebrated what they describe as the beginning of a path towards freedom and democracy in Venezuela.

The rally had the institutional support of the mayor of Arrecife, from the Popular Party, who joined the event and publicly expressed his support for the Venezuelan community through his social networks. "Today Arrecife beats with a Venezuelan accent. Accompanying a united, emotional, and hopeful community, which has gathered to celebrate the beginning of a path towards freedom," said the mayor, also highlighting the solidarity and commitment of the capital of Lanzarote with the rights and dignity of peoples.
The Lanzarote Island Councilman, Jacobo Medina (PP), was also present, expressing his support for the Venezuelan people and residents on the Island who, he stated, "have never stopped fighting or dreaming of a free Venezuela."

From the organizing association, they emphasized that the Canary Islands are not indifferent to the situation in Venezuela and highlighted Lanzarote's role as a land of welcome for the Venezuelan community, which continues to keep its commitment to the freedom and democracy of its country of origin alive
