The Cleaning Councilor of the Yaiza City Council, Rubén Arca, councilor of Unidos por Yaiza (UPY), has responded to the "erroneous and malicious" information from the Popular Party and the Canarian Coalition regarding the problems in the garbage collection service that Urbaser provides in the town of Playa Blanca.
The councilor has based his argument on the fact that both parties speak of "cuts in the service" while the reality is "very different." In this line, the Cleaning Councilor has highlighted that "we all witnessed the agreement reached with the company in August 2023," when the council increased the item and the contract by 15,000 euros more per month, with the aim of "responding to a situation of injustice with the workers of this company, but also to improve the technical equipment that the company had until then and that were clearly insufficient. Therefore, the first lie is completely exposed."
Thus, Rubén Arca has accused the Popular Party of "another lie" regarding the municipal action. In this sense, the party in the opposition assured that those of Unidos por Yaiza have not "done anything" in recent years to solve the problems of the garbage service in the municipality. "From the Cleaning area, work has been done on a new specification, which has been challenged by one of the outgoing companies of the service, and this has caused delays that have increased given the changing circumstances of the economy as a result of the pandemic."
“The only certain thing about all this is that we already have a specification, and that it is now in the audit phase, which is the phase prior to going out to tender, so we hope that before summer we will have a new service valued at 2.8 million euros that will help us to improve the cleanliness of the municipality much more,” the councilor reported.
Now, the UPY councilor has highlighted that it is "very paradoxical and even typical of a new humorous essay to which they have accustomed us, that it is the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party who complain about this issue when they have already demonstrated their inability to solve an issue that in Arrecife has much greater problems than in Yaiza and whose company is still the same."
In this line, Arca has stated that "we know that the current service can be improved, but it is not justification for the opposition to lie and even less to give lessons when where they govern they have the same problems and with the same company and still have not done anything to reverse the situation."
