UGT claims that the workers of the Princesa Yaiza Hotel belonging to the works council "are suffering a situation of harassment due to the actions they have been carrying out in the fulfillment of their duty as staff representatives, which is none other than defending the rights of workers and dignified employment," the union says.

The controversy between the company and UGT delegates has been sparked by the fact that the company's management has asked the union delegates, seven in this case, to participate in a collection of signatures to contribute to the [legalization of the hotel->http://www.lavozdelanzarote.com/spip.php?article23885].

The union refused to carry out this suggestion since they are not "a transmission belt" and since then "they have been disrespected and attempts have been made to discredit them by placing posters of the delegates on the company's notice boards."

For this reason, UGT has stated in a press release its full support for the actions that the employees have been carrying out. Likewise, they reject "the statements made by the company against our colleagues since it only intends to use the workers as an argument of defense, in the face of the illegalities committed by it, and thus declared by the courts of justice."

In addition, the union has reaffirmed that one of its main objectives is "the defense of workers and respect for the rule of law and therefore the laws that protect us."
