Coalición Canaria has experienced another black day this Wednesday, which will make it lose power in the only two councils in which it had managed to maintain the presidency. The motions of censure presented this morning in Tenerife and La Palma are added to the one that was already voted this week in Fuerteventura, leaving the nationalist party practically without power in the islands, which for the first time after 26 years, will not be part of the new Government of the Canary Islands either.

In the case of La Palma, the motion of censure has been presented by the Socialist Party and the Popular Party, which will assume the presidency through its candidate Mariano Hernández. Thus, they will unseat Nieves Lady Barratero, from Coalición Canaria, who failed to close a pact and began the mandate governing in minority.

As for the Cabildo of Tenerife, it was the PSOE, Podemos and Ciudadanos who presented the motion of censure against Carlos Alonso, proposing the socialist Pedro Martín as the new president, although from the purple formation they have clarified that they will not join the government group.

This would have been a requirement set by the Ciudadanos councilors, who were prohibited from supporting motions of censure that would bring Podemos to the government. However, despite the fact that the purple formation will not govern, the Cs leadership considers that there has still been indiscipline on the part of its councilors and has already announced that it has opened a disciplinary file with provisional suspension of membership, which will be notified to them this Wednesday.

In addition, this new crisis is added to the one that the party already had open due to what happened in the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where its councilors also supported a motion of censure against CC and have been disciplined.

For their part, the PP councilors who have supported the motion of censure in La Palma together with the PSOE also had guidelines from the national leadership of the party to agree with Coalición Canaria. However, both the popular palmeros and the public officials of Ciudadanos in Tenerife defend the need to remove CC from power after more than two decades of government.
