The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will travel this Thursday to Salamanca to participate in the Conference of Presidents, where he plans to present several issues such as the proposal that the communities most affected by the pandemic receive more funds, the mandatory vaccination of public employees or the need to "activate mandatory solidarity" of the autonomous communities to welcome immigrant minors.

This was indicated to journalists after attending the meeting of the Governing Council of Casa África, where he indicated that "after the summer the migratory phenomenon will surely continue to exist, as it has existed in previous years", and although he stated that now the islands have resources unlike 2019, he also stressed the need to "activate mandatory solidarity" between the communities.

Canary Islands, he said, currently has just over 2,500 unaccompanied minors and "the support is basically the Government of the Canary Islands", although he thanked the transfer approved this week by the Government of Spain, but "it is not exclusively a matter of economic resources, which are insufficient those that are transferred, but of a concept" that must be shared with the rest of the communities.

Therefore, he has clarified that if it is necessary to modify the laws for this mandatory solidarity to be effective, he proposes that it be done to contribute to the integration, education and training of these minors.

Finally, Torres considered "an indisputable success" that the Conference of Presidents is held because it allows sharing approaches between the regional presidents and the central government. In addition, he assured that the protocol "has been exactly the same" as in the rest of the occasions, in such a way that there will be an intervention by President Pedro Sánchez and then the leaders of the communities will be able to present their considerations.
