The Popular Party of Tinajo considers "deeply serious and inadmissible" the statements made by the mayor, Jesús Machín, during the last municipal plenary session, and later ratified in a radio interview, in relation to the management of cases of gender violence in the municipality.
The opposition party indicates that "far from clarifying the situation, the mayor's subsequent statement, in which he tries to qualify his words and apologizes, confirms the lack of rigor, sensitivity and institutional responsibility with which he is addressing such a delicate issue as the protection of victims of gender violence".
“From the Popular Party we do not agree that a mayor can allow himself ambiguous or misinterpreted expressions when it comes to guaranteeing the safety of women in vulnerable situations”, said the local coordinator, Carmen Camiñas.
“It is clear that the explanations offered a posteriori, four days later, are not sufficient if all the documentation is not provided in this regard and the issue is addressed with the highest level of transparency that the residents deserve and that allows such a delicate issue as gender violence and the protection of victims”, he added.
The mayor's own recognition that “he did not express himself clearly” does not excuse him from the seriousness of statements that have generated a justified social alarm. The populars also regret that it has had to reach this point, with the media uproar generated on a national scale, to obtain a forced rectification from the mayor four days after the plenary session that, they say, “is late and does not resolve the institutional damage that has already caused”.
“We believe that it is necessary to fully clarify the management of municipal resources in cases of gender violence and the protocols applied in order to guarantee that no municipal action has been able to put the integrity of the victims at risk”, said Carmen Camiñas.
