The Tías City Council has initiated the process to award Mamerto Cabrera Medina the distinction of Favorite Son of Tías posthumously.

Through a decree signed by the Mayor's Office, the process has begun to verify the merits and circumstances and thus grant this tribute to the founder of the Lanzarote car rental company Cabrera Medina, known as CICAR.

The council has ordered the opening of a 20-day public information period so that interested parties can appear to argue for or against this proposed distinction.

Mamerto Cabrera was a young entrepreneur who in 1967 decided to dedicate himself to car rental in Lanzarote. He started with five vehicles in a garage in Arrecife, where he previously had a cafeteria. More than 20 years later, in 1989, Canary Islands Car (CICAR) joined the Cabrera Medina Group and expanded to the rest of the Canary Islands. Currently, it manages thousands of vehicles also outside the archipelago.
