The Town Hall square of Tías hosted this Tuesday the institutional act for International Women's Day, with the reading of the manifesto by the Mararía association. In addition, the City Council has also placed temporary plaques on 25 streets of the municipality, with the names of women from Tías, with the aim of "giving value and making visible the traces they have left in their environment."

The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the Councilor for Equality, Nicolás Saavedra, accompanied by councilors, municipal workers and neighbors, presided over the event and encouraged citizens to participate in the program of events organized by the City Council.

"This will be the first action but not the only one, as our intention is to expand the number of temporary plaques with women's names next year," said Nicolás Saavedra, referring to the placement of the 25 temporary plaques.

"We commemorate this March 8, 2022 after two years of pandemic due to Covid-19 and immersed in a war conflict, without being able to ignore that exclusion and poverty have the face of a woman and a girl, which implies the feminization of migratory movements," read Carmen Delia Reyes, member of Mararía.

"It is time for women to finally be heard and also the time to motivate men to join the cause more than ever, because we cannot forget that gender equality benefits the whole society and not just a part of it," she added.

This activity, carried out by the Mararía association and promoted by the Tías City Council, is called "Women with a Mark." In fact, the Avenida de las Playas of Puerto del Carmen, in the area of the tourist information office, has the generic distinctive of this initiative.
