The workers of the Tourist Centers put the strike of July 11 on hold

The Committee stated this Friday in a statement that after having announced the [strike notice->http://www.lavozdelanzarote.com/article.php3?id_article=281], and after communicating it to the president and vice president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas and Manuel Fajardo, they "with good disposition have summoned us to a meeting for next week, which we hope can reach an end that does not further damage the image of the CACT's, its workers or the Island".

In another writing, the CACT's Management indicates that after the meeting of the Negotiating Committee of the Collective Agreement of the workers, held on June 29, to reach a final agreement, it transferred to the Works Council an agreement by which "the Committee's proposal is accepted in its entirety". That is, the withdrawal of the counterproposal of the Company Management (three of the five points raised): personal matters, prohibition of hiring Temporary Employment Agency (ETT) and increase of the working day to 40 hours during the summer months.

Two conditions

As a counterpart, the two points that the Management wants to tie down are based on the fact that the Management can hire workers for events when the employees of the Tourist Centers are not available, as well as the possibility of establishing work schedules according to the needs and demands of the centers' own services. This would imply, on the one hand, the withdrawal of article 50 of the Collective Agreement, where the prohibition of Multiple Employment is determined, which literally states that "during the validity of this agreement, the company is prohibited from employing personnel who are working in other companies (...)"; and, on the other hand, the deletion of a paragraph of article 10 of the agreement, which literally states that "the most beneficial shifts and schedules that each worker may have will be respected (...)".

Despite the fact that the Works Council has announced that last Thursday, June 30, it had already conveyed to the General Directorate of Labor its intention to call the strike for next July 11, pointing out in said communication that "the strike will be carried out indefinitely and from 00:00 hours" of the aforementioned date, and arguing in it that the prior notice arrives "because to date the negotiations carried out with the Company Management, to achieve the signing of the Collective Agreement have been unsuccessful", and for the "breach of the Collective Agreement in force", the fact that now the Management accepts the conditions with the aforementioned counterpart revives the possibility that the workers will finally call off the strike.
