The Water Consortium of Lanzarote has launched one of the cross-cutting measures of water economy and wide impact, incorporated into the declaration of water emergency in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, whose announcement was published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands.

As a preliminary step to the granting of subsidies, the Water Consortium published this Tuesday on its website the announcement of the prior consultation on the approval of the Regulatory Bases of these grants, under a competitive system, which can be accessed by both citizens and professionals and whose objective is the storage of domestic and irrigation water.

“Lanzarote and La Graciosa have had a deep-rooted water culture, as a result of the historical scarcity we have suffered, and today, more than ever, we must recover that tradition, given the water emergency in which we find ourselves, and which needs the involvement of the whole society”, according to Oswaldo Betancort.

The Minister of Water of the Cabildo, Domingo Cejas, points out, for his part, that “the water cuts that are taking place on the island, due to problems both in the distribution and due to the breakdowns suffered by the infrastructures for the production of water, mainly affect those users who do not have tanks or cisterns. And in that sense, from the Consortium we are going to contribute funds to support citizens and reverse that situation”.

Domingo Cejas, also recalls that “by contract and within the articles of the Regulations of the drinking water supply service, there is an obligation for each user to have at least 120 liters per person per day, for 5 days, in the case of domestic consumption, and 250 liters per person per day, for five days, in the case of tourist-residential consumption”.

Regarding the public consultation, the Water Consortium points out that any interested natural or legal person may express their opinion, for a period of 10 working days from the day following the publication of the announcement, through the registry of entry of the Water Consortium of Lanzarote.
