The councilor of Vox Ginés González was key for the nationalist Olivia Duque to take over the mayoralty of Teguise after losing the elections on May 28. The municipality of Lanzarote has been the only one in the Canary Islands where the far-right formation has raised a regional political formation to reach power.

The list headed by Olivia Duque was the second most voted in the municipality, behind that of the socialist Marcos Bergaz. However, the support of the Popular Party and Vox have served the Canary Coalition to take over the baton of command.

During an interview granted to the microphones of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Monday, Ginés González has made clear the reason for his support for the current mayor: "There were only two possibilities: to support the PP and the Canary Coalition or the PSOE." Therefore, we decided that "we were going to prevent the PSOE from governing as much as possible", he points out.

Regarding the decision, the councilor admits that "as much as I may be criticized for giving the vote to a nationalist party, we must be consistent with the people who have voted for us, before voting for ourselves or abstaining, something that would be giving the mayoralty to the PSOE in Teguise," he acknowledges.

"We have spoken with PP and Coalición for some points that we have in common," the Vox councilor advances. "We are going to be there supporting the measures that we had from the beginning," he confirms regarding the decisions together with both parties.

As for the measures, "we agree on the problem of the courts of the school of La Villa, also with the issue of the Police and security," he reveals.

"We should extend a hand and abide together by what we all want," he emphasizes. In relation to Coalición Canaria, Ginés González relates that he is "a man of his word, I have promised that I was going to vote for them, I hope that they also fulfill what we agreed on."

For the moment, Vox will not enter the government group of Teguise, according to what the only councilor of the political formation has assured during the interview. "I am not going to enter the government group from what I understand until today," he insisted. At the same time, he emphasizes that he has not entered politics to "take a chair, but to work, not to collect a salary and be sitting there."

He confirms that "I want to work and get the best possible, I don't want a desire for protagonism," concludes Ginés.
