The Company Committee of Urbaser, the company in charge of waste collection in Arrecife, has presented a notice of strike, according to reports from Intersindical Canaria.

The reason for this strike, they explain, is due to the "breach of the pre-agreement of the final record of negotiation of the company's collective agreement." This pre-agreement is dated December 10, 2009 and deals with the salary review. From Intersindical Canaria they affirm that the company "did not apply the increase of the real Canary Islands CPI, of 2 percent to the salaries of the year 2010, as well as the salary review of 2.5 percent for the salaries of 2011".

The beginning of this strike, which would be indefinite, is scheduled for next Monday, April 18 and, according to the statement, would affect all work shifts and the entire staff.

The Company Committee apologizes to the residents for the damage that this strike may cause, while requesting "understanding and support." "Due to the company's non-compliance, there is no other way out," they say. "We only ask that the company and the Arrecife City Council comply," they affirm.
