The Tinajo City Council has received this Wednesday the work of the La Santa skate park, a new sports and social space. The space has a privileged location facing two of the best waves in Europe, which complements the sports offer of the municipality for all levels and ages. It occupies an area of 487.37 square meters and includes a 265.3 square meter bowl. It has been designed and built through the Cooperation Plans of the City Council and Cabildo for a total amount of "180,774.83 euros" which includes the drafting of the technical project and the tendered work.

The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, together with the Councilor for Works, Luis Berriel, and the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, visited the new skatepark this Wednesday. The Councilor for Sports and Youth of Tinajo, Vianney Rodríguez, explained that “it is a project that goes beyond a sports facility, it is the product of a participatory work with girls and boys of the municipality, within the Strategic Planning for the promotion of Participation, where, starting from an available space in La Santa, an explicit demand for a place for the practice of skate and surf skate and a joint creation process with the Department of Youth, the Technical Office, skate schools on the Island, local skaters and surfers, this new option for sports practice in Tinajo is born.

In addition, the 'Comprehensive Plan for Children and Adolescents of Tinajo', where technical resources, children, youth and family have been involved, includes in its line of action number 16 "the demand for a skate park in this town”.

For the Councilor for Works, Luis Berriel, “the work is an example of the good cooperation between Tinajo and the Cabildo and responds to the needs and desires of many young people in the La
Santa area”. “We had the completion of this work marked in red because it was a neighborhood demand and the skate sector to be able to enjoy a skatepark on the coast of Tinajo”, says the Councilor of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina.

For his part, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, thanked “the support and willingness of all the people who have contributed their time and knowledge to the development of this project that is already a reality, now it is everyone's responsibility to manage its proper use and maintenance. Thanks also to the Island Council for its collaboration. A project is already being prepared for the calisthenics area and the remodeling of the gardens and stands around the area. Now it only remains for the young people of the town of La Santa and the rest of the town of Tinajo to enjoy this long-awaited space linked to the sport of surfing and skateboarding”.
