The Tenderete underwent a decontamination process whereby the engines, oil tanks, and other corrosive parts were removed before being sunk in the vicinity of the marina. Those in charge of carrying out the activity were the divers from Submarine Safaris, a company that has been carrying out daily dives in the Puerto Calero area for 12 years.
The sinking is part of a new project for the recovery of marine life in the area and to create over time an artificial reef for the reproduction of new species. The walls of the boat are an important protection mechanism for the creation of marine life and facilitate the reproduction of fish. Therefore, now the remains of the Tenderete are located at a depth of 25 meters anchored to the seabed and it is hoped that over time this project will allow passengers of the Sub Fun Tres a wonderful view of underwater life.
