The Arrecife City Council informs that, from this Friday, the 25th, normality returns to El Reducto beach after the Public Health Area confirmed the good quality of the waters of this large urban beach. Sanidad's communication was received by the Beaches Department during the early hours of this Friday, the 25th.
The City Council points out that "the presence of high tides this September and the possible presence of spill residues in the subsoil near El Reducto beach are considered hypotheses for the analyses that Sanidad periodically carries out in different areas of the Canary Islands coast to advise against swimming at El Reducto."
The Councilor for Beaches of the Arrecife City Council, Davinia Déniz, reported that City Councils in the Canary Islands apply the protocol established by Sanidad and when swimming is not recommended on a beach, citizens are informed and the red flag is hoisted.
For the councilor responsible for the Municipal Area of Beaches and Environment, it is "surprising that, in the PSOE, in opposition in this institution, they do not know the meaning of a red flag on a beach: It can be due to currents, presence of jellyfish, strong waves, various dangers, or swimming is not recommended for health reasons."
The Councilor for Beaches, from the very beginning when she informed the public about this situation at El Reducto, advising against swimming this past Wednesday, worked with the main hypothesis about the presence of spill residues in the subsoil near the El Reducto area, a natural trough that reached the current area of IES Las Salinas, and could have been dragged by the high tides.
