The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has warned that there is no defined project or budgetary allocation for the rehabilitation of the Insular Hospital, an absence of planning and funding that, in their opinion, puts the real continuity of the center at risk. The PSOE warns that what is presented as a provisional transfer will result in a covert and progressive dismantling of an essential service for the island

Faced with this situation, the Socialist Group has requested the appearance in the Plenary of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, so that he may report on the information that the insular government handles and on the position it maintains regarding the future of the Insular Hospital.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, has underlined that "when there is no project or budget, there are no guarantees". "Talking about a transfer without explaining what is going to be done, how, and with what resources only generates uncertainty and social alarm," she stated

González recalled that the Insular Hospital is a benchmark in the care of the elderly and an institution deeply linked to the history and families of Lanzarote. “Citizens have the right to know the truth and to have clear and transparent information about a service that directly affects the dignity and care of our elders,” he pointed out.

From the Socialist Group, there is also a warning about the risk that provisional transfers end up becoming permanent, without a firm commitment to return to the current building or a clear action plan. "A decision of this magnitude cannot be made by fait accompli and without guarantees," insisted the socialist spokesperson

For all these reasons, the PSOE considers it essential that the president of the Cabildo appear in the Plenary and give clear explanations. “It is not a transfer, it is a disguised dismantling if there is no rehabilitation project or a budgetary item to support it. The Cabildo has the responsibility to defend this service and to live up to a widely shared social demand,” concluded Ariagona González.
