El PSOE de Lanzarote has expressed in a press release its discomfort over the closure of El Reducto beach which already reaches four months. It was last October 14 when it was definitively closed after fecal discharges were detected in the water.
"During these four months, Christmas and Carnival have passed, two dates marked on the calendar as of tourist interest, and the mayor of Arrecife continues to pass on the subject, as if this were not with him," they state.
Cristina Duque points out that “it is inadmissible that the city's mayor has no solutions, and doesn't even care, one cannot burn more than 27 million euros on parties and have El Reducto beach closed, without anyone even making a sad diagnosis”.
The city faces a new important date, Holy Week, and with the situation the same. “We should consider what kind of impact it has on the city's image that all tourists, whether staying in hotels, or as cruise passengers, or simple visitors to the city, have seen the red flag of pollution, and how they have shared it on their social networks,” comments Duque.
"We are talking about tens of thousands of Europeans who have seen the beach closed for more than four months, among visitors, cruise passengers, and people who stay overnight in the capital," he concludes.
