The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced the deception of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, after eliminating the funds of the Municipal Cooperation Plan, to which he is obligated by law, with the excuse that they would be compensated by the European funds of the PAI (Integrated Action Plan). Now, after the rejection of the PAI in the EDUSI-FEDER 2021-2027 call, Lanzarote is left without European funds and the municipalities without the financial support that they were entitled to through the cooperation funds. The Secretary-General of the PSOE of Lanzarote and Deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, described Betancort's maneuver as a "deliberate deception of the mayors," by using a European instrument unrelated to the municipal cooperation plan to justify the withdrawal of funds that are a legal obligation of the Cabildo. "They said there would be no cooperation plan because they would take advantage of European funds. Today we know that they lied: there is neither a plan, nor funds, nor responsibility. They have deceived the mayors and have left the municipalities without the resources that corresponded to them by law and without the European funds with which they intended to justify themselves," Corujo said. The socialist secretary recalled that the Municipal Cooperation Plan was created by a law promoted by a socialist government, precisely to guarantee equity and territorial balance between the municipalities, and to prevent the councils from acting with political discretion. Municipalities without the support of the Cabildo for the first time "They have broken the law and deceived the municipalities due to their lack of management. The result is that Lanzarote is missing a golden opportunity to attract European funds, and the town councils have been left without financial support from the Cabildo for the first time," he added. The PSOE of Lanzarote regrets that the island government of the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party has once again placed the island in a position of loss and isolation, without leadership or political influence. "This episode reflects his way of governing: without planning, without rigor, and without commitment to the municipalities. Lanzarote is paying the price of a government that only thinks about propaganda and headlines, while fundamental resources are lost to improve people's lives. Not even the fact that his own party governs in the Canary Islands has served to reverse this situation: Lanzarote is today the second to last island in regional investment, which demonstrates the total lack of weight and defense of island interests on the part of Oswaldo Betancort," Corujo concluded.
