The PSOE has obtained in Arrecife "the best results of the last 40 years", in the words of the candidate Alfredo Mendoza, by rising from the 5 councilors that the socialist party obtained in 2019 to the 9 that it has achieved in this election day. Mendoza has shown his gratitude to the residents of Arrecife "who have demonstrated that resounding support for the candidacy of the Socialist Party to the Arrecife City Council that I have the honor of chairing."
Mendoza said that they expected good results in Arrecife, but he was "surprised to obtain such a resounding result" of nine councilors, despite the fact that "they were working with the illusion of reaching an absolute majority" and the good sensations of door-to-door in recent days."
"We never paid attention to the polls, I think the most important thing was that work that has always characterized all my colleagues and myself in this case as well, that I have the honor of leading this human group, was humility, honesty and a lot of work."
Regarding agreements, the winner of the municipal elections in the capital of Lanzarote has said that he is not anticipating anything because today it is time to enjoy the results, but he joked "we had a couple of shoes left to spend to achieve an absolute majority, but well, I promise to spend that pair of shoes from Monday."
The socialist candidate has highlighted that it has been "a complicated legislature" and that the "electoral campaign has also been very difficult, but the work, effort and total sacrifice of each of the men and women of the party to achieve the results we have had has been well worth it.
Meanwhile, the Popular Party with the candidacy headed by Astrid Pérez has positioned itself as the second political force, with seven councilors and 24% of the votes.
Canarian Coalition, to third position
The candidate of the Canarian Coalition to the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, has appeared before the media with a serious face. He has gone down the stairs of the nationalist headquarters in Arrecife accompanied by the number two on the list Pedro San Ginés, also with a serious attitude.
Arrecife was in 2019 one of the most disputed spaces. The fight between the main political forces led by the Popular Party, the PSOE and the Canarian Coalition has ended with the clear victory of the socialist and the Coalition has gone from occupying the first position and nine councilors to the third position.
In the 2019 elections, the Canarian Coalition obtained 5,311 votes in Arrecife, for the moment, with 95.81% of the votes, 3,986.
"If anyone said that they expected the PSOE result, with nine councilors at this time they would be lying. It was not expected, the polls have spoken clearly. Now it is time to be aware of this and respect the result. A new scenario opens in Arrecife and we are obliged to a policy of agreement", the nationalist candidate has confessed.
Regarding the possible mistakes made, Echedey Eugenio does not believe that it is due to mistakes in the political campaign, but rather to having been in the opposition in the first part of the legislature.
