"Once again, the socialist group's version is confirmed, and what we most want is for each and every one of the service's deficiencies to be corrected, to guarantee the well-being of the animals.” This is how the PSOE has assessed the news of the opening of criminal proceedings for the management of the Teguise municipal dog pound, whose situation they had warned about some time ago.
"We neither prejudge, nor do we expect a rectification from Coalición Canaria, which denied the PSOE's version, but we do hope that they will improve the service once and for all, even if motivated by fear of the action of justice", said the socialist councilor Jenifer Galán.
"Time has proven us right, as even the justice system is investigating the state of the dog pound”, insist the socialists, who recall that in June they already presented a motion to the Plenary "to correct the precarious situation of the service and installation", which they described as "lamentable". "But the government of Oswaldo Betancort rejected the initiative, denying that it was true, even that we had appeared at the dog pound", Galán points out.
"However, reality ends up prevailing, because regardless of the judicial investigation and the presumption of innocence, the truth is that the indications of the abnormal functioning of the dog pound have motivated the action of the Seprona and the Justice", continues the councilor.
For an animal welfare center
The Teguise PSOE recalls that in its motion it urged the Teguise government to commit to a series of actions to correct the state in which the animals housed there were, "in very improvable conditions, some even suffering from diseases pending veterinary assistance", adds the councilor.
The proposed actions included the replacement of the deteriorated fencing of the cages, the removal of the rubble that was in the back, the improvement of the gutters, the completion of the leftovers of the new modules, maintenance of the building and extension of public service hours. "They denied the need to undertake it, even questioning that the photos provided to prove its condition were current", criticizes the PSOE.
