The PSOE of Teguise denounces "the obstacles" that the Canary Coalition government is placing on clubs "to be able to use the facilities on Sundays and holidays", as well as the state of "numerous municipal sports facilities".
"The absurdity of the sports policy of Oswaldo Betancort's government reaches alarming levels when it proposes to close the municipal sports facilities on Sundays, recently urging clubs and federations to refrain from requesting the tracks, courts and sports fields on Sundays and holidays", denounce the socialists.
“Obsessed with economic posturing and their zero debt, the Canary Coalition government transforms a positive piece of news, the great sporting influx in our facilities, into a problem, complicating operations and hindering our clubs that do an exceptional job with children and young people”, says the spokesperson for the PSOE of Teguise, Marcos Bergaz.
"From the PSOE we urge the mayor and the Canary Coalition to find an immediate solution and stop hindering the social work of our clubs, allowing their operation from now on on Sundays and holidays, days that it is also worth remembering are the most conducive to sports practice and competition", adds Bergaz, who questions that the Canary Coalition government is "more concerned about who will be its candidate than about managing public affairs."
The “Hoyo” Court, another example of neglect
To this issue is added "the state of numerous sports facilities in the municipality, such as the El Hoyo Court in La Villa de Teguise, with tabobos on the playing court, rusty goals without nets, with walls waiting for a coat of paint, gates in poor condition, etc., not to mention those that still have a surface as abrasive and unappealing for sports as asphalt".
"So much boasting about zero debt to end up in debt with our amateur athletes, who struggle to play in decent conditions", adds Bergaz.
"Now we understand why El Hoyo remained closed after demanding the reopening of the court in the historic center of La Villa, although it is even more striking that they opened it this Sunday with the state it presents. The neglect is absolute and its appearance does not invite our children and young people to play", continues the councilor.
Comprehensive plan for conditioning sports facilities
The PSOE maintains that the "chaotic" situation of "El Hoyo" is not an isolated event. "There are numerous facilities that show worrying signs of poor maintenance, such as the changing rooms, the facade or the 'little device' that gives light to the enclosure of the Tahiche Pavilion and Football Field", points out Bergaz.
"The socialist group has been demanding since the beginning of the mandate that the Canary Coalition Government of Teguise dedicate greater attention to the maintenance of our municipal sports facilities to promote the sports practice of our neighbors and that it be done in the best possible conditions", adds the spokesperson.
In this sense, the PSOE invites the municipal government to create a comprehensive plan for conditioning sports facilities, whose management competence corresponds to the City Council. "It is hard to believe that we have to remind the Canary Coalition of the countless benefits that promoting sports practice in our municipality brings to society: improvement of health and socialization", says the socialist spokesperson, who is committed "to maximizing the social profitability of our courts."
