The Socialist Party (PSOE) demanded this Wednesday that the municipal government, formed by the Canarian Coalition, the Popular Party and the former VOX councilor, urgently correct the deterioration of the fence of plot 216 in Costa Teguise.
The socialist spokesperson, Marcos Bergaz, highlighted that this urban skeleton is "one of the wounds and example of urban illegality that our main tourist center still suffers with more than 50 years of history."
The plot, of more than 35,000 square meters and located between Avenida de Las Palmeras and Avenida del Mar, houses one of the so-called urban skeletons: "An unfinished construction, the result of urban illegality and municipal neglect for years", as recalled in a statement.
For the party in the opposition, "all this constitutes a grievance for those who at the time did comply with the rules and, at the same time, deteriorates the image of a first-class tourist destination and a town that houses more than 9,000 citizens."
"To this problem", continued Bergaz, "is added the serious risk to the safety of people derived from the state of the perimeter fence, non-existent in some sections and in others with clearly insufficient maintenance." This deficiency allows easy access to the interior of the structure, which multiplies the dangers.
Bergaz graphically documented the situation: "It is a high-rise building, with potholes and embankments of five or six meters deep, which turn the place into a real source of risk. All this in one of the busiest areas of Costa Teguise."
Faced with this situation, the socialist team of Teguise urged the municipal government, in the last plenary session, to establish as soon as possible corrective measures to eliminate the risk to people existing in plot 216 of Costa Teguise, as a result of "the absence or the lamentable state of conservation and maintenance that the fence presents in numerous points of its perimeter", as stated in a statement.
Denounces the lack of requirement to the property
The plenary hall of the Teguise City Council debated the socialist motion, which was supported by all groups. However, the Socialist Party was surprised by the response of the Councilor for Urban Planning, Rita Hernández, who stated that the property had been urged to fence the plot without official notification: "It is true that it has not been done in writing."
Faced with these statements, the socialist leader, Marcos Bergaz, demanded on several occasions that the municipal government clarify whether requests or execution orders have been formulated in writing in this mandate to correct the state of the fence and the existing risk of accident, "because it would be very serious if they had not occurred."
"It would be unjustifiable the pattern that, with ordinary people, with the humble, one would be forceful in the face of any urban situation, even resorting to criminal proceedings, as happened to a resident of Caleta de Caballo; and with the powerful, it would be weakness, kid gloves or a simple call", said Bergaz, before the silence of the government.
The socialist initiative to adopt immediate corrective measures regarding the skeleton of plot 216 and the risk presented by its fence and structure achieved unanimity from all groups, "although the municipal government did not dispel doubts about the passivity shown in these more than two years of government of CC, PP and the former VOX councilor in the face of a manifest danger to residents and visitors."
"It is even less understood that this situation is allowed when it was recognized again in plenary that an amendment to the General Plan is being processed to measure, to save this illegal structure, but in the meantime, neither the fence nor the existing danger are able to resolve", lamented Bergaz.
The socialists hope that the approved motion will serve as a turning point for the Municipal Government to take this matter seriously, avoid a possible tragedy and put an end to the bad image generated by this urban skeleton in the heart of Costa Teguise", concluded Bergaz.
