The PSOE of Teguise has demanded in the plenary session that took place this Tuesday in the Spínola Palace of La Villa “maximum information to the taxpayer and improvements” in the new ordinance that regulates the fee for garbage collection, initially approved with the vote in favor of the government of Teguise, formed by Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP) and the former Vox councilor Ginés González.

This update brings with it a “generalized increase” in what households and businesses in Teguise and La Graciosa pay, with aspects that, in the opinion of the socialists, "must be corrected to make it fairer", says Marcos Bergaz, socialist spokesman.

"We don't want to talk about 'garbage increase' or 'rate increase', but there are significant increases such as the one that affects small bars and restaurants that would have to pay 284 euros per year to 600, in the case of restaurant businesses of less than fifty square meters; or from 227.68 euros to 450 euros for bars of the same dimensions, regardless of the location in the municipality", the socialists clarify.

"Hence - continues Bergaz - we demand maximum information to the taxpayer, so that they can present the allegations they consider during the public exhibition process of the ordinance, which will last for 30 days from its publication; as well as to foresee the greater fiscal effort that they will have to face next year if the ordinance is definitively approved in these terms".

"Likewise, we do not agree that, when talking about households, these go from paying 56.92 to 75 euros per year, regardless of the number of people residing in the home, its surface area or value; we are committed to progressive criteria, that a house with a single member does not pay the same as another where 8 people live, a house of 60 square meters than another of 500", justifies the socialist leader.

Finally, the socialist group, which abstained in the vote based on the aforementioned arguments, also misses in the text of the ordinance the inclusion of more incentives for households and businesses that assume responsible behaviors with the environment to reduce waste generation, as well as other types of bonuses aimed at certain groups, such as large families.
