The Socialist Party has announced this Tuesday, through a press release, that it will ask for explanations from the Teguise government group —made up of Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP) and a former Vox councilor— for the absence of blue flags on the beaches of Costa Teguise.

The list of concessions corresponding to 2026, published this Tuesday by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer (Adeac), confirms that the beaches of Las Cucharas, El Jablillo and Bastián have not obtained this distinction, which recognizes aspects such as cleanliness, services, safety and water quality.

“Unlike other tourist towns in Lanzarote such as Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise is once again left without any distinction, something we view with a certain healthy envy,” said the deputy spokesperson for the socialist group, Jenifer Galán.

Galán stated that this situation "is not surprising, given the background," and recalled that at the beginning of the term, the PSOE proposed a plan of actions to improve the condition of beaches and bathing areas, which was rejected by the current governing group.

The socialists describe the resolution of these awards as "bittersweet", since "the satisfaction for the blue flag granted to the Port of La Graciosa, dependent on the Canary Islands Ports - along with the ports of Playa Blanca, Órzola or Calero - is tarnished by the absence of this recognition on the beaches of a town with more than 9,000 residents and more than 10,000 tourist beds".

“It seems that Puertos Canarios is putting in more effort, while the local government remains occupied with internal conflicts that do not cease and that end up harming the municipality,” added Galán.

For all these reasons, the PSOE announced that it will request explanations from the municipal government about this situation. “It is our obligation, especially when their recurring ‘we are on it’ clashes with reality: Costa Teguise still has no blue flags,” concluded the deputy spokesperson.
