The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has denounced the "hypocrisy of Coalición Canaria" who, during the past term, "raised hell" for the hiring of island directors. Either they have lost their shame or their memory. During the past term they questioned the appointments they are now making," the councilor stated.
This is what the Socialist Party has stated: "Oswaldo Betancort hires four island directors, which will cost more than 300,000 euros annually."
González recalled that, in addition, both "Partido Popular and Coalición Canaria considered the salaries of the island directors excessive, despite the fact that it was publicly explained to them that the directors who would be paid the highest salaries were career civil servants of the Autonomous Community of level 30."
"The double standard of Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular is unbearable. Now, those salaries that seemed scandalous to them are applied to non-civil servant graduates," said the socialist spokesperson. Ariagona González regretted that "this type of artificial controversy generates doubts in the public about the correct use of public funds and the management of the administrations themselves."
"The island directorates are necessary in an administration of the size of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. What is unacceptable is that these appointments are criticized only when the PSOE makes them. If they had a minimum of political dignity, they would apologize for the real harassment to which they subjected the government without any justification," the councilor concluded.
