The Socialist Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its councilor and former head of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, has expressed its concern about the management of funds of the public company. The reason is the decision of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to allocate nearly 500,000 euros for the organization of the concert of the artist Manuel Carrasco, which will be financed through funds from the CACT and the SPEL.
This "exorbitant expense" adds to the additional costs derived from the event, such as the assembly of the stage, which constitutes, in the opinion of the PSOE, an "irresponsible and disproportionate use of public funds".
The socialist councilor has pointed out that it is "astonishing how the Canarian Coalition, accompanied by the Popular Party, increasingly inflate the account of millions spent on musical events wherever their own govern, ignoring the true investment needs."
Likewise, he pointed out that "this management highlights the poorly focused priorities of the current presidency of the Cabildo. A disproportionate amount of public resources is invested in specific and private events, while maintaining the commitment to cut funds to support the rich cultural diversity of our island."
Culture for a few
In this sense, Benjamín Perdomo refers to "the refusal that the President of the Cabildo maintained to continue with the financing of cultural projects on the island, an issue that was promoted by the previous socialist government and that Betancort wanted to eliminate as soon as he arrived at the Presidency, relying on the erroneous argument that the funds of the centers are not intended to finance artistic or cultural projects."
"Oswaldo Betancort has preferred to move from the CACT financing culture for everyone to financing culture for a few, through macro musical events that will become the hallmark of the governments of CC and PP," he adds. "Let us remember that he wanted to eliminate, as soon as he arrived, the support for local musical, artistic and cultural groups that are the essence and the key to the island's cultural development, but he sees with good eyes spending more than half a million euros of the CACT funds in one day. We are facing one more chapter of the witty Oswaldo and Contradicción Canaria," said the socialist councilor.
In this line, the Socialist Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote asks for greater transparency in the management of public funds, demanding that it be carefully evaluated how and in what the resources of the Tourist Centers are invested, which must be done for the benefit of all the people of Lanzarote.
